Hale@home is a distance learning program that builds participants’ confidence in their transition to boarding by establishing connections with other future Hale boarders, teachers and learning technologies. This innovative program was the first of its kind in WA, using technology to bridge the gap between students living in rural/regional areas and their future school.
In the year prior to starting, students connect online for weekly conversations, presentations and projects. Sessions are led by boarding staff who will also be the main pastoral care contacts when boys enter boarding at Hale.
Participating families are invited to ̽»¨ÏµÁÐ to attend an orientation camp mid-year where they meet the other boarding families they have connected with online. The Hale@home teaching team, where possible, also visits their home to discuss their son’s progress.
Research and feedback on the program confirm that it helps lift the boys’ confidence and optimism about dealing with the transition to boarding life.
